When a claim is refused, and why an approved one arrives as coins
A payout table only matters if the claim gets through. Hipobuy lists seven reasons it will not pay, and when it does pay, the money comes back as store credit.
Seven reasons Hipobuy gives for refusing a claim
Both insurance articles end with the same disclaimer list. Read as a checklist, it tells you what you need in hand before anything goes wrong.
- Force majeure: war, natural disasters, radioactive contamination.
- No related proof.
- A late claim, or a parcel delivered while the claim was open.
- The parcel was stolen or went missing once delivered.
- The goods fall in a category that cannot be insured, are banned or restricted for shipping, or were seized by the authorities.
- Damage or loss caused by you, on purpose, or by the product itself.
- "Other situations that can not apply for compensation".

Delay is not a claim at all
Hipobuy's insurance FAQ is blunt: because mainstream couriers have not released compensation standards for delays, "no compensation is currently available for delayed parcels". Neither the free table nor the paid table has a delay line.
The site's code still contains older strings for a paid "Delay Protection" and for a refund of 20% of shipping on certain routes after 30 to 40 days. None of the routes we read on 16 October 2026 offered a delay option, and the FAQ is the published rule, so we treat those strings as leftovers rather than as cover you can buy.

Proof that tends to carry a cover claim
"Customers can not provide related proof" is the second refusal on Hipobuy's list, and the paid option's tooltip makes confirmation by the logistics provider part of the deal. What counts as proof differs by event.
For a lost parcel, the tracking history and the carrier's confirmation of loss do most of the work, with the freight bill showing what you paid. For missing items, the warehouse photos showing the full count before dispatch are the baseline. For damage, photos of the damaged items and their packing, set against warehouse photos showing them intact. For a customs hold, the notices or documents from customs.

The deadline worth remembering
The disclaimer's third item is the one people miss: nothing is paid unless you raised the problem inside 7 days of signing for the parcel, or inside 45 days of its dispatch. For a parcel that never arrives, the 45-day clock is the one that matters.
Other procedures have separate clocks. Receipt guidance asks for a local post-office report within two days after signing if damage or shortage was not checked with the courier. After-sale guidance requests evidence within two working days and has a 72-hour clause for damaged, missing or defective goods. Inspect with the courier where possible, keep the box and ask support which procedure applies. Do not treat the insurance seven-day period as permission to wait.

Approved claims are paid in Hipo Coins
The after-sales article puts it plainly: after verification, customer service will "refund the compensation amount to the user's Hipobuy account gold coins". The paid options say the same, "in the form of gold coins by default".
Hipobuy's site code defines the coin: "Gold coins cannot be withdrawn. They can only be used for internal transactions such as purchasing goods and paying freight within the platform. 1 gold coin = 1 yuan." Its privacy statement adds that Hipo Coin "cannot be converted into cash, digital currency, or withdrawn to external accounts". The combined payment rules also stop coins and account balance from being used together in one payment.

What coins are worth if you stop ordering
If you will keep buying through Hipobuy, a coin is as good as a yuan: it pays for the next order or the next parcel's freight. If this was your last order, coins are worth only what you are willing to buy with them.
That changes the arithmetic of paid cover. The premium leaves your card or balance as money; the payout comes back as coins. The comparator has a field for what a coin is worth to you, set to 100% by default. Lower it and the break-even chance rises accordingly.
Coins also follow their own payment rules. They are spent first in a combined payment, they cannot be combined with account balance in one transaction, and combined payments do not cover supplementary payments or price differences, so a later top-up for extra weight may need other money.

How a claim gets started
Both articles give the same route in: apply through after-sales or contact online customer service. The customer service address on Hipobuy's contact page is [email protected]. Hipobuy gives no hours for its support team; the only hours it states, 09:00 to 18:00 UTC+8, are when its buyers place orders.
Write down the parcel number, the route name, what happened and when, and attach the warehouse photos and tracking screenshots. If the route type matters to the amount, ask in the same message whether the route is self-operated.
